Deshawn Denson II, a talented 10th-grade student at Midwest City High School, is making waves on and off the basketball court. Denson’s passion for basketball has already earned him recognition, notably winning the all-tournament team at the Deer Creek Tournament and clinching the impressive title of 6A Freshman of the Year.

Reflecting on what he has learned from the game, Denson “How to learn from losses and keep going.”

In terms of a teacher who has left an impact, Denson credited Ms. Maples, his 2nd and 6th-grade teacher, for imparting lessons beyond academics. He expressed, “Ms. Maples taught me how to be a better person off the court.”

When it comes to inspiration, Denson looks up to his father, stating, “My dad gave me the blueprint and has been a part of every step through this journey.” The unwavering support and guidance from his father have played a pivotal role in Deshawn’s growth, both as an athlete and an individual.

Acknowledging the impact of teammates, Denson highlighted Amos. “Amos went through a lot of adversity and he still wanted me to be great all through my freshman year,” Denson said.

“He has supported me through it all.”

Representing Midwest City High School holds special significance for Denson. He shared, “My favorite part about representing my high school is that I’m representing people who show a lot of love and support.” Denson takes pride in being a part of a community that rallies behind him.

Quoting the best advice he has received, Denson shared, “Be you because everyone else is already taken.” This mantra encapsulates his authenticity and individuality in the pursuit of his dreams.

Denson took a moment to express gratitude, saying, “I thank my mom, grandma, dad, and
brother for being with me through the good times and bad times and have been with me since the very start.”
