Midwest City’s Seven Miller Athlete Spotlight Presented by Shelter Insurance- Leticia Pena Torres

By Jayden Oyler
In the spirited halls of Midwest City High School, 10th-grader Sevyn Miller stands out not only for her prowess on the basketball court but as a well-rounded student-athlete. Miller’s basketball journey hit a high note when she ventured to Las Vegas with her AAU team, marking a significant achievement in her dedication to the sport.

Beyond the realm of basketball, Miller carries with her a set of life principles. She emphasizes, “Not to judge a book by its cover, anything can happen at any time, and if you want to be great, you have to work at it

Acknowledging the influence of educators, Miller highlighted Ms. Smith, stating, “Ms. Smith pushed me to be my best.”

Drawing inspiration from family, Miller looks up to her Grandma, noting, “She has been through a lot in her life and doesn’t let it define her.” The resilience demonstrated by her grandmother serves as a profound source of strength, illustrating the transformative power of overcoming life’s challenges.

Teammates often form the backbone of an athlete’s experience, and for Miller, Jaciah McCalister holds a special place. Sevyn acknowledges, “My AAU teammate Jaciah McCalister is always going to give you her all, even if she can’t, she’s going to try.”

Representing her high school in basketball is more than a game for Sevyn; it’s an opportunity to be a role model. She expresses, “I enjoy being a role model for the school,” emphasizing her commitment to setting an example for younger generations.

Miller imparts motivational wisdom, stating, “Why wait to be great, and if it’s not worth working for, then it’s not worth having.” This mantra encapsulates her drive and determination, propelling her to pursue excellence in all facets of life.

Beyond her athletic pursuits, Miller is an active member of the National Honor Society and the Sophomore Class, showcasing her dedication to both academic and extracurricular success. In expressing gratitude, MIiller extends sincere thanks to “all the coaches, teammates, and people I have gotten the chance to meet and also helped me along the journey.”
