Midwest City’s Carl’sheon Young – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stevens Appliance

Carl’sheon Young is a name to keep an eye out for in future college basketball. Currently a junior at Midwest City High School, Carl’sheon is committed to play at Oklahoma State University. Getting noticed by college recruiters is nothing new. He received his first division one offer as an eighth grader.

“I play with extreme passion because basketball is my life. It is all I have known since I was nine, traveling around the world playing and watching the greats. Seeing the passion they play with became part of my game as well,” says Carl’sheon.

Playing on a team is a chance to build a brotherhood with his teammates and coaches. Basketball teaches valuable lessons. “Stay true to who you are and believe in yourself,” he said.

Carl’sheon is a role model to be looked up to. He proudly represents his school on and off the court. “My favorite thing about representing my school is showing the youth and people that look up to me what it looks like being a student athlete and division one player on the court,” he says.

Listening to his dad’s basketball stories inspired Carl’sheon to get involved in sports. “My dad has taught me everything I do on the court. I just had to put it all together. Dad was good back in his days!” says Carl’sheon. “The best advice I received comes from my dad, ‘do what you’ve got to do now so you can do what you want later.’”

DJ Denson is the teammate who leaves a big impression on Carl’sheon. DJ is a 15-year-old sophomore. He plays with a maturity level Carl’sheon has never seen before in a player so young.

Many people have been involved in preparing him for a future career in basketball. “I want to give a shoutout to my AAU coaches, and the Oklahoma State University staff for believing in me. I also want to give a shoutout to my dad for grooming me into the young may I am now,” he said.

Brazil is his choice for a vacation destination with his family. Carl’sheon is interested in Brazilian culture and would love to explore that area. He says his all-time favorite meal is chicken with mac and cheese, and corn.
